Group Riding Guidelines
Please can you make sure you read and agree to the contents of this page BEFORE attending a Central Scotland Bikers ride out or event. It's the members responsibility attending any CSB group ride outs to RIDES FOR THEMSELVES and it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to ensure safe riding at ALL TIMES and you KNOW HOW TO GET HOME by yourself if necessary.
The following are guidelines and please apply when safe to do so.
Group Riding Guidelines
-----------------
1. If possible, route descriptions will be posted on the calender page . Make sure you KNOW THE ROUTE BEFORE LEAVING, the DESTINATION, ANY STOPPING POINTS and HOW TO GET YOURSELF HOME. We will have frequent regrouping points but if you get separated, knowing the destination, stopping points and route will let you regroup or get home safely. smile
2. Keep a SAFE DISTANCE to the bike in front of you (remember the 3 second rule) once the ride out gets going and don't 'tail' the bike in front. Ride for yourself at all times and don't feel pressured to do as the bike(s) in front, ride to your own ability even if it means going slower than the group - we will always wait for you.
3. STAGGER POSITIONING if safe to do so on the road so you are not directly behind the bike in front, this helps reduce the risk of shunts.
4. The CATERPILLAR SYSTEM. Basically always keeping the bike behind you in sight if safe to do so, so if a turning is made, and you don't see the bike behind in sight, hold back (where safe to do so and non obstructive to other traffic) until they are in sight and can see where you are going. If everyone takes this approach, hopefully we won't end up with too many disappearances en-route.
5. PEER PRESSURE. Please DO NOT try to keep up with the bike(s) in front of you or feel you have to, or other bikes that may be overtaking. You must RIDE FOR YOURSELF at all times and ride within your OWN LIMITATIONS.
We will always stop up ahead to regroup somewhere safe and in plain site - we won't leave you behind.
6. LET THE ORGANISER KNOW IF YOU WANT TO SPILT FROM THE GROUP so we know what to expect. Equally if you decide you are going to LEAVE THE RIDE OUT and head somewhere else or home, please let the organiser know so we are not waiting for you or wondering where you have gone.
7. We reserve the right to ask someone to leave the group ride-out if their riding is deemed by us to be unsafe and compromises the safety of the group.
8. If you ride a 125cc motorcycle, you may find it less easy to keep up with more powerful larger engined bikes on our ride out. We will endeavor to cater for smaller machines but please especially make sure you know the route, destination and stopping point if you ride a 125cc machine as you may become separated from the group and we may not be practically be able to wait for you on longer trips.
9. If there is an ACCIDENT, call the relevant emergency services if necessary. Oragnisers are not responsible for the health and safety of the members or their bike on a CSB run or any injuries caused, damage or loss to property or livelihood (see Member Agreement). We would suggest have an emergency contact in your phone as ICE for the emergency services, but this is your choice and it's up to the emergency services to make contact with this if necessary. If there is an accident we sill stop the ride where safe to do so and pull over.
10. BREAKING DOWN. We suggest having suitable RAC/AA or RECOVERY SERVICES membership to get your bike home in the unfortunate event of a breakdown is the members responsibility and organisers are unable to provide assistance in this area unfortunately.
11. NON MEMBERS. We only allow CSB members to bring their bikes on our runs so you may not bring a bike riding friend on their own machine unless they have applied to and been accepted as a member of this Meetup group. PILLIONS are always welcome and do not have to be a member of the group or have to be RSVP'd for on a calender event.
12. Please keep in mind whilst on a rideout, MEMBERS ARE EXPECTED TO RIDE AT A SAFE LEGAL SPEED and ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE for their own safety and adherence to traffic laws and regulations. If separated from the group as is common with traffic, whenever possible, the rideout leader will always try to stop ahead to allow riders to regroup.
13. We may decide to LIMIT the number of places on a rideout for members to RSVP to. This is done by the organiser for group comfort and safety and is entirely at their discretion. Normally it's 12 members per organiser but this may change due to individual circumstances.
